Introduction to Info Source

Info Source describes the programs and activities, and the information holdings related to programs and activities, of government institutions subject to the Access to Information Act to facilitate the right of access. It also provides individuals, including current and former employees of the Government of Canada, with relevant information to access personal information about themselves held by government institutions subject to the Privacy Act and to exercise their rights under the Privacy Act.

The Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act assign overall responsibility to the President of Treasury Board (as the designated Minister) for the government-wide administration of the legislation.

Community Action and Innovation

Through its Community Action and Innovation program, the Department for Women and Gender Equality provides grants and contributions to organizations to implement projects that are designed to strengthen the sector working to advance gender equality and bring some degree of systemic change in the underlying factors that perpetuate inequality at a local and regional level.

Expertise and Outreach

Through its Expertise and Outreach program, the Department for Women and Gender Equality provides tools, expertise and advice to: (1) federal organizations and central agencies on their proposals to Cabinet and the Treasury Board, and with respect to budget proposals, (2) federal government organizations to further develop their capacity to conduct GBA Plus at all stages of policy/program development and across all government activities and processes; (3) provincial, territorial and local governments, private sector and civil society organizations that have the levers to address gender equality issues through policy, programming and organizational practices; and (4) to increase public awareness through outreach to the general public.

Strategic Policy Planning, Foresight, and Engagement

Description: Provides policy leadership in setting gender equality objectives, priorities, plans, and mechanisms for the Department of Women and Gender Equality Canada. Conducts analysis and contributes to issue-based documents, proposed Acts, regulations, policies, programs and other information from government and non-government sources. Contributes to relevant working groups and committee work, including the Status of Women Federal, Provincial, Territorial (FPT) forum.

Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA Plus)

Formally known as “Gender-based Analysis” and “Gender-based Analysis +”

Description: Includes records related to the work led by WAGE to advance and enhance Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA Plus) across the Government of Canada, with Provincial and Territorial Governments, and external stakeholders. Gender-Based Violence

Description: Preventing and addressing gender-based violence requires coordinated and collaborative actions from federal, provincial, and territorial governments, each working within their respective jurisdictional authorities, in close partnership with victims/survivors, Indigenous partners, civil society, front-line service providers, municipalities, the private sector and researchers. The federal Gender-based Violence Strategy is the Government of Canada’s response to gender-based violence (GBV) and is the federal contribution to the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence.

2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan

Description: Launched on August 28, 2022, the Government of Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan aims at advancing rights and equality for Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and additional sexually and gender diverse people (2SLGBTQI+) in Canada. This Plan intends to create a more equitable Canada for 2SLGBTQI+ communities, for present and future generations. The Action Plan builds upon work the Government of Canada has done since 2015 to address persisting disparities faced by 2SLGBTQI+ communities and to build a safer, more inclusive country. The Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan prioritizes community action and coordinate the Government’s work to advance 2SLGBTQI+ issues across federal departments and agencies in a holistic, whole-of-government approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of the types of inequities facing communities.

Research and Innovation

Description: Support evidence-based decision-making by identifying drivers of and obstacles to gender equality, as well as effective interventions. Work to improve the availability, accessibility and visibility of data, statistics and analysis related to key gender equality issues. Classes of personal information

Classes of personal information describe personal information that is not used for administrative purposes or is not intended to be retrievable by personal identifiers. This kind of personal information is normally retrievable only if the requester gives details about the activity/subject, date and circumstances under which the information was provided to WAGE. The retention period for this kind of information is specific to the files in which it is stored.

Grant and contribution programs

This class describes personal information used in support of grant and contribution programs for organizations. Personal information regarding representatives of organizations is not collected for administrative purposes at any time during the processing of grant and contribution applications or program administration. This personal information is accessible to WAGE personnel responsible for administrating the grants and contributions program, as well as to those responsible for public announcements. The information may be shared within WAGE and other federal institutions for the purpose of administering, overseeing, evaluating or auditing the grant or contribution program for which it was collected.

For requests made by mail, this should be paid by enclosing a cheque or money order made payable to the Receiver General for Canada.
