Strengthening regional connectivity: Comox Airport ensures Northern Vancouver Island economy can take flight post-pandemic

Regional airports and carriers provide a vital service, providing commercial flight access, supporting critical supply chains and promoting economic growth. They connect patients to needed medical care and enable essential work travel. They provide important emergency services and cargo operations to supply businesses and workers. As a transportation gateway to the Comox Valley, Comox Airport plays a critical role in serving these needs on Northern Vancouver Island.

Over $1 million in PacifiCan support allowed Comox Airport to restore transportation routes, enhance regional connectivity and enable economic activity in the region once again. The project included restructuring and enlarging parts of the airport to allow for physical distancing. These upgrades allowed the Airport to safely increase passenger volumes, diversify routes and enhance air transportation services to communities on Northern Vancouver Island. The project restored or maintained seven air routes and 30 jobs, supporting safe passage for 185,412 travelers.
