2022-23 Supplementary information table : Reporting on Green Procurement

PDF   Reporting on Green Procurement (PDF)

This supplementary information table supports reporting on green procurement activities in accordance with the Policy on Green Procurement.

Context

The Administrative Tribunals Support Service of Canada (ATSSC) is bound by the Federal Sustainable Development Act and chose to voluntarily develop a 2020 to 2023 Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS). It did not develop an optional 2022–23 DSDS Report. Instead, to comply with the reporting requirements under the Policy on Green Procurement for 2022 to 2023, the Reporting on Green Procurement supplementary information table was prepared and listed in the 2022–23 Departmental Results Report.

UN SDG: Target 12.7
Departments will adopt clean technology and undertake clean technology demonstration projects Create sustainable workplaces and mobilize employees on greening government. Providing alternative working arrangements to decrease emissions and promote the usage of clean and sustainable technology through department-wide planning initiatives Telework continued to be the primary work model for the ATSSC. With the easing of workplace restrictions, employees gradually returned to the office as ATSSC prepared to shift to a hybrid work model. Despite the increase in-office presence, the organization carbon-footprint remained low. Traffic and commutes to the office were moderate thereby resulting in low level of Greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to ATSSC Future of Work Initiative, the use of videoconference or hybrid hearings and the organization’s renewed efforts towards file digitization and paperless work environment (e.g. through the implementation of new technology such as e-filing systems) are key elements of the organization’s commitment towards the Greening of Government Strategy.
FSDS: Greening government enables us to do our part to mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the resilience of our own operations.
UN SDG: Target 13
Support for green procurement will be strengthened, including guidance, tools, and training for public service employees Ensure decision makers have the necessary training and awareness to support green procurement. Percentage of staff with green procurement training and ensuring manager of procurement has a green procurement objective in the performance management agreement. Green procurement training for acquisition cardholders is offered on an ongoing basis.
