Colonel A.J. Thomas, OMM, CD

Colonel (Col) Angie Thomas grew up in the rural town of Musgravetown, Newfoundland and Labrador. She enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1999 under the Regular Officer Training Plan and earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada in 2003.

Upon completing her training as an Air Combat Systems Officer in 2004, she was posted to 14 Wing Greenwood as a member of  405 Squadron, 404 Squadron, Maritime Proving and Evaluation Unit, and then 415 Squadron. During this time, she logged more than 3,200 hours on the CP-140 Aurora aircraft as a Navigator Communicator, Tactical Navigator, Flight Instructor, Project Officer, Standards Officer, and Crew Commander. She participated in many expeditionary and domestic operations including Operation (Op) ARCHER, Op ATHENA, Op CARIBBE, Op MOBILE, Op IMPACT, Op FOUNATION, Op NEON, Op NANOOK and Op CADENCE. In 2019, she was appointed as the Commanding Officer of 404 Long Range Patrol and Training Squadron.

Col Thomas enjoyed two postings to the Canadian Joint Operations Command Headquarters in Ottawa. Her first posting was in 2017 as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander and, in 2021, as the Director of J35 Operations and Plans. From 2023-2025, she enjoyed two postings at the Royal Canadian Air Force Air Staff in Ottawa as the Executive Assistant to the Commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force, and as the Director Air and Space Plans (A5).

Col Thomas is a graduate of the Joint Command and Staff Programme and the United States Air Force Air War College. She holds a master’s degree in leadership from the University of Guelph, a master’s degree in defence studies from the Royal Military College of Canada, and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the United States Air Force Air University. In 2020, she was awarded the Order of Military Merit.

Col Thomas assumed command of 14 Wing Greenwood on July 9, 2026.
