Provides long range patrol training and conducts regular surveillance over the Atlantic Ocean. 14 Wing also supports global strategic transport and is the primary air search and rescue (SAR) unit on Canada's East Coast.

About

14 Wing is located at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Greenwood in Greenwood, Nova Scotia. It is under the operational command of 1 Canadian Air Division. The Commander of 14 Wing is also Commander of CFB Greenwood and is responsible for all base administrative, operational, and logistical support.

14 Wing/CFB Greenwood is the largest air base on the East Coast. It conducts sovereignty and surveillance missions over the Atlantic Ocean and in the Arctic for Operation LIMPID and maintains SAR capabilities 365 days of the year.

14 Wing/CFB Greenwood is a leader in developing and applying air power in global, joint and combined operations.

The osprey is derived from the badge of CFB Greenwood and holds a lightning bolt and trident representative of the communications and defensive roles that the wing performs. The globe represents the worldwide mandate of 14 Wing.

 
Honorary Colonel William Ricketts

Honorary Colonel William Ricketts

An Honorary Colonel is a distinguished civilian appointed by the Minister of National Defence to strengthen relationships with local, professional, and civic communities. The role is honorary and advisory in nature, providing support to the local Commander through engagement in ceremonial functions, advocacy, and the promotion of RCAF traditions, while contributing to the well-being of military personnel and their families.

History

In 1942, CFB Greenwood was established as Royal Air Force Station as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP). The BCATP was a plan to expand all Commonwealth air forces. In keeping with this objective, Greenwood was used as a training base during the Second World War, and before the end of the war, produced operational forces. Flying a drone

Civilian drone operations within 3 nautical miles (5.6 kilometers) of an aerodrome under the authority of the Department of National Defence (MND) requires pre-authorization. For more information about these zones and how to properly access them, please consult the National Research Council of Canada Drone Site Selection tool and section 3.2.35 of the Remotely Piloted Aircraft chapter of Transport Canada Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM). Civilian drone operators with the required licence and registered drone who are seeking to fly within a Wing aerodrome must contact the Wing in advance for approval.
