Colonel Tyler R. Donnell

COLONEL TYLER R. DONNELL

Colonel Tyler R. Donnell is a native of New Mexico and received his commission as a Field Artillery Officer from The United States Military Academy in 2002. COL Donnell is currently the Deputy Commander of the Army Training Authority and Deputy Commander of the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre since July 2024.

COL Donnell began his career with the 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery, 1st Cavalry Division (Fort Hood, TX) as a Fire Support Officer and Platoon Leader. He later served as an Aide-de-Camp to the Assistant Division Commander – Maneuver, 1st Cavalry Division.

Following his graduation from the Field Artillery Advanced Course, COL Donnell served as the Assistant Battalion Operations Officer for 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery, 1st Cavalry Division, and later Commander, Bravo Battery / 3-82 FA (Fort Hood, TX). Following Battery Command, COL Donnell served as the Effects and Engagements Officer for 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.

Invited to return to The United States Military Academy as an Instructor of Physics and Nuclear Engineering, COL Donnell taught the core physics curriculum and then Modern Physics, where he was also the Course Director.

COL Donnell was the Operations Officer then the Executive Officer of 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery, 2nd Infantry Division (Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA). COL Donnell then served as the Deputy Commander, Division Artillery, 2nd Infantry Division.

COL Donnell was the Ground and Naval Arms Officer for Special Operations Command – Korea (SOCKOR), serving as the SOJ37 (Exercise and Training Directorate) and Military Deputy SOJ5 (Strategic and Plans Directorate).

COL Donnell was the Commander of Field Artillery Squadron, 3d Cavalry Regiment (Fort Hood, TX).

COL Donnell was the Senior Fire Support Trainer, Vampire 07, at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Hohenfels, Germany. Training NATO Allies and Partners at the only forward US Army Combat Training Center.

COL Donnell holds a Bachelor of Science from The United States Military Academy and a Master of Science in Applied Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School. His military education includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, U.S. Army Air Assault School, U.S. Army Ranger School, Command and General Staff College, and U.S. Army War College.

COL Donnell deployed to Iraq three times with the 1st Cavalry Division in Field Artillery command and staff positions. COL Donnell’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star (3 OLC), Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5 OLC), Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Ranger Tab.

COL Donnell is married to the former Dena Fabré of Orlando, FL. They have two children, a son Devin (23), and a daughter Avalin (12).
