Canadian Army Environmental Policy
The Canadian Army generates combat effective, multi-purpose land forces to meet Canada’s defence objectives. The Army produces soldiers who are well-led, well-trained and well-equipped and ready for operations at home and abroad. The need to train as we fight can have an impact on the environment.
The Army will conduct its activities in a sustainable way, exercise due diligence and will:
- Comply with applicable environmental legislation and departmental environmental policies;
- Integrate environmental considerations in decision-making processes;
- Improve environmental performance through the Environmental Management System;
- Minimize environmental risks and impacts associated with Army training and operations;
- Identify environmental training needs and ensure their delivery;
- Raise awareness and promoting environmental matters; and
- Contribute to the goals established in the Defence Energy and Environment Strategy.
Commanders at all levels shall ensure that the requirements outlined in this Policy are implemented and communicated throughout their organizations. The active involvement of all organizations and personnel supporting the Army mission will help to ensure that we meet our environmental goals.
