Canadian Army Modernization

The global security environment has been rapidly evolving, driven by great power competition, technological disruption, climate change, and hybrid threats. In response, Canada’s defence policy has emphasized the need to urgently modernize and restructure our land forces. As indicated by recent defence announcements, Army modernization also serves as a catalyst for greater strategic autonomy and industrial renewal and economic growth.

The goal: creating a modern Army that is ready and resilient, equipped and able to operate seamlessly across diverse environments and cohesively with joint, allied, and other partner organizations in the defence of Canada at home and around the world.

Army modernization is about more than new equipment and capabilities. It requires a mindset and a cultural shift. It aims to build a warfighting advantage through resilience, adaptability, innovation, and risk tolerance.
