The Canadian Army
The Canadian Army (CA) is modernizing to counter evolving global threats and safeguard national sovereignty. As part of this transformation, the Army will increase its agility and empower its soldiers by shifting operational management to the divisional level, while the CA Headquarters (HQ) focuses on strategically ensuring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Canada. This restructuring aligns roles with operational needs and integrates advanced technologies to enhance lethality, mobility, and interoperability, ensuring the Army remains adaptive and effective in a rapidly changing security environment.
Defence of Canada Division

Composed mainly of part-time soldiers, the Defence of Canada Division leads domestic operations and surge capacity. It supports national emergencies, homeland defence, and scalable force expansion, maintaining strong ties with civil authorities and communities. It enables domestic and expeditionary mobilization.

Manoeuvre Division

As the Canadian Army's primary combat force, the Manoeuvre Division is structured for rapid deployment and high-readiness operations. Under one tactical command, it integrates all key operating functions – command, sense, act, shield and sustain – enabling decisive action in both major combat and crisis scenarios. This division also enables expeditionary mobilization.
- Deployable division HQ focused on warfighting operations across the full spectrum of confict
- Mechanized brigades with upgraded tanks and recon platforms
- Fires brigade with self-propelled 155mm artillery and longrange precision fires
- Combat support brigade with Air Defence, engineers, Electronic Warfare, CBRN, CIMIC, PsyOps, and UAS
- Combined arms Reserve battalions for flexible operations
- Sustainment brigade to double logistics and combat service support
- Light infantry regiment for crisis and Arctic response
- Control of aviation, medical, and military police for mobilization
Support Division

The Support Division provides the foundational infrastructure and services that support both expeditionary and domestic
missions. It consolidates regional support under one command to ensure consistent readiness and sustainment across the Army. It also enables mobilization for both the Defence of Canada Division and the Manoeuvre Division.
- Support groups aligned to West, Centre, East, and Atlantic regions
- Unified command of bases, garrisons, and detachments
- Standardized command and control across support units

Training Formation

The Training Formation oversees all Army Training. It ensures that soldiers and teams are prepared to fight and win in the land domain.
- Maintains the CA’s intellectual foundation through Doctrine and Lessons Learned
- Commands all CA training establishments
- Plans and conducts collective training at the Brigade level and above
- Trains part-time soldiers through Reserve battle schools
- Provides professional military education across the Army
- Supports mobilization
