Not just a simulation: ESL Technology on cusp of major expansion

Jeff Gibson believes the secret to his company’s success is the execution of its vision.

The president of J-Squared Technologies, the parent company that owns and operates ESL Technology Inc. , has big plans for the Dartmouth-based environmental and electromagnetic interference and conductivity testing lab.

Over the past 25 years, ESL Technology has fulfilled testing requirements for the defence, marine, oil and gas, and aerospace industries. The company has carved a niche service by offering environmental tests that are hard to come by, including those for temperature, humidity, vibration and corrosion. Through its services, the company helps its naval, avionics and military clients meet rigorous product qualification, certification, validation and regulatory requirements.

“ESL has been able to leverage J-Squared’s market position in rugged applications to significantly increase its respective customer portfolio and revenue,” Mr. Gibson explained. “This uniquely positions J-Squared and ESL to provide more capabilities and value to our customers through product development, test and lifecycle management.”

In line with fulfilling ESL’s growth strategy, Mr. Gibson explained that the company has placed a great deal of emphasis on acquiring equipment that will allow it to expand its testing capabilities, leading to an increase in business. This will also result in an increase in the company’s workforce, which is expected to increase from 20 to greater than 50 by end the end of 2026.

The addition of new equipment is integral to the company’s growth plan, having helped the company win several new multi-million-dollar contracts.

The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency shares Mr. Gibson’s optimism for the company’s future.

With support from the Agency, the company has undertaken recent expansions to its testing facility in the Burnside Industrial Park in Dartmouth. The company purchased several key pieces of equipment required for defence  and commercial marine programs, expanding its relevance in these sectors. In its most recent project with the Agency, ESL will purchase a high impact, medium weight shock machine to expand its environmental service offerings.

Mr. Gibson confirmed the project has been instrumental in the company’s success in securing its new contracts. He is beginning to see an increased market awareness of ESL’s best-in-class  testing capabilities.

“By the second half of next year when all of the equipment is operational, we’ll have a unique footprint in Canada,” he explained. “I’m happy with our progress, and excited about finding new business opportunities throughout the country and in international markets as well.”

“ESL is just getting started.”
