Challenge: Producing a winning game plan for a competitive industry
Solution: Bringing together all the data clients need in one superstar platform
The Big Five sports leagues know a winner when they see one – and they all see one in Kinduct Technologies. Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Soccer (MLS), the National Football League (NFL), and the National Hockey League (NHL) are all clients of the human performance data and analytics software company.
The Halifax-based firm’s highly secure, cloud-based platform allows organizations to spend less time managing their data and more time using it to inform decisions, promote improvement, and produce results. While using data to assess performance is not new to the sports world, Kinduct goes a step further than its competitors. “We consolidate all the data into one platform. You can compare and contrast data. We use AI engines that reveal patterns and trends. That improves decision-making,” says CEO and founder Dr. Travis McDonough.
Kinduct is expanding both the data it collects and its customer base. The company sports the only platform that has successfully integrated medical and performance data. It is also expanding its reach within the industry. Over the last two years, the company has focused on individual teams and has a 40% market share of Big Five franchises. Now it is branching out to include leagues, player associations, and more throughout North America and around the globe.
Growing the business is good for more than the bottom line, notes Travis. “The more clients we get, the more information we get and the more data we get. We’re always thinking about what clients need tomorrow and a year from today.”
Innovation is central in an age where the Internet of Things is no longer a mere concept. Travis points to the health system as an analogy. Twenty-five years ago patient data was kept on paper in manila file folders. Today there are electronic health records that help improve diagnoses and outcomes. “We’re in the same situation. We’re in a great position to change the sports industry in a significant way,” says Travis.
His vision for the company is major league – and attainable. “We want to be the global leader and create the most robust athlete management platform.”
For other entrepreneurs, especially those in the software sector, Travis stresses that defeat is part of the game. “There are all kinds of setbacks you will have. You have to be prepared to dust yourself off and get back up.
