Rafflebox

Rafflebox helps charities, not-for profits, and sport organizations raise funds through digital channels with easy-to-use technology that is making a real impact in the world of fundraising and charitable initiatives.

The company’s origin dates to an experience in 2016 at the Calgary Stampede. CEO and co-founder Matthew Broussard wanted to buy a 50/50 ticket but was discouraged by long lines at the bank machine and prize booth. He thought “there has to be a better way” – and that’s how the idea of Rafflebox was born.

Fast forward to 2024 and Rafflebox has a team of forty employees, with thirty of them residing in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Several Rafflebox employees moved here from Alberta to continue to grow the business. Atlantic Canada’s fast-growing and supportive startup ecosystem fed by a pipeline of talent from world-class universities has all contributed to the growth of Rafflebox. They came in search of the ocean, a better work-life balance and Halifax's booming technology community.

"The support for startups is incredible. Doors started opening for us as soon as we started growing our presence in Atlantic Canada," says Rafflebox CEO Matthew Broussard. “You can really tell that Halifax is growing. There's a vibrant scene. The buzz around tech, the buzz around people downtown, great new restaurants popping up, a lot of great events - we’re really enjoying that.”

Rafflebox now operates in every province in Canada and is growing into the United States. It’s scaling at a tremendous growth rate of 50% year-over-year and adding new hires every quarter.

“We’ve really grown as a company because of the people we’re surrounded by. The mentorship we have received here in Atlantic Canada has really helped us,” says Rafflebox President Simon Cusack. “Business leaders have given us great advice and guidance. And that has really impacted what we’ve focused our time on as we scale our business.”

Growth exploded when the pandemic shut down in-person fundraisers. Organizations could no longer rely on in-person fundraising or gala events. Groups who previously were nervous to embrace online fundraising and technology looked to Rafflebox for help. Once people experience the ease of online fundraising, they rarely turn back. The company has now helped raise hundreds of millions of dollars for thousands of causes proving that business success can go hand in hand with positive social impact.
