Festivals and events play a significant role in attracting visitors, boosting tourism, and helping rural businesses and communities grow and thrive. That is why the Government of Canada is helping festival organizers in Prince Edward Island develop events that can be delivered in a safe and engaging way, while in compliance with COVID-19 restrictions.

Federal government invests in regional sector recovery

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs Canada and Member of Parliament for Cardigan, today announced an investment of $495,000 to create the Prince Edward Island Innovation Fund (PEIIF) with the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island (TIAPEI). Minister MacAulay announced the funding on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

The program will provide between $7,500 and $35,000 to help not-for-profit organizations deliver festival and events across the province. The PEIIF will enable organizers to find creative ways to mount a dynamic festival season while navigating reduced attendance and social distancing regulations.

Today’s announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to help position the tourism sector and the region for a strong recovery, while promoting all the rich cultural experiences that have attracted millions of visitors from around the world.
