Air industry representatives attend the region’s largest aviation event to discuss future of air services

June 22, 2023 · Halifax, NS · Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)

Atlantic Canada’s air transportation industry is building capacity to make the region’s air service network more appealing to domestic and international travellers. Drawing more people to the region brings with it more opportunities to showcase the exceptional tourism, business, and lifestyle opportunities that Atlantic Canada has to offer.

Airports, airlines, tourism professionals as well as provincial and federal government representatives met in Halifax, June 20-22, for the Altitude East 2023 conference, the premiere aviation event in Atlantic Canada. This event provided an opportunity to discuss issues and trends as well as explore new opportunities that will strengthen Atlantic Canada’s booming appeal as a place to prosper, grow and settle, as recently confirmed in the Atlantic Canada Momentum Index.

A strong and competitive air transportation industry is vital for Atlantic Canada’s economy. To that end, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA, today announced a non-repayable contribution of $742,500 to the Atlantic Canadian Airports Association.

This project aims to grow passenger and cargo services for Atlantic Canada’s airports by exploring ways to re-establish routes lost during the pandemic, build new routes, and increase the frequency to and from domestic, trans-border and international locations.

The Government of Canada is determined to make investments in initiatives that help accelerate the region’s outstanding momentum, by supporting sectors that enhance Atlantic Canada’s economic resiliency.
