Overnight closures of the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge

News release

June 2, 2021
Ottawa, Ontario

Due to overnight closures of the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is recommending commercial drivers and travellers entering or exiting Canada use either the Thousand Islands Bridge or the Seaway International Bridge.

As announced by the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority, as of Sunday, June 6, 2021, they will be closing the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge to all traffic, every Sunday to Thursday from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM (Friday 6:00 AM). These closures, which are expected to last until October 16, 2021, are due to construction by the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority on the United States span of the bridge.

The CBSA port of entry at Prescott will remain open with minimal staffing for administrative and security purposes and to ensure a CBSA presence in the event of any unforeseen emergency related to Canada’s safety and security.

There will be no overnight closures on the following days:

  • Canada Day – Thursday, July 1, 2021
  • Independence Day – Monday, July 5, 2021
  • Labour Day – Monday, September 6, 2021
  • Thanksgiving Day (Canada) & Columbus Day (U.S.) – Monday, October 11, 2021

Travellers are encouraged to manage their crossing by checking border wait times using the CanBorder App and to cross at the least busy port of entry in the area. While the CBSA will not compromise safety and security, every effort will be made to minimize processing times.

As a reminder, non-essential travel restrictions between the United States and Canada are still in place. Travellers entering Canada are subject to strict requirements for mandatory 14-day quarantine or isolation; the use of ArriveCAN to submit pre-arrival information; and COVID-19 testing before, upon and after arrival. Please visit Canada.ca for details and the list of exemptions.
