Help your community
Being flood ready is a shared responsibility. Each member of your community has a role to play to reduce the impacts of major flooding events and to protect people and properties.
What community organizations can do:
- Work with your neighbouring organizations, and your provincial or territorial government, to assess and identify risks in your community.
- Develop and adopt a risk-based land-use planning strategy that outlines your vision for the future, with the aim of enhancing disaster resiliency.
- Learn about the effects of development on community stormwater management and drainage systems.
- Ensure community members and businesses are aware of, and follow the National Building Code of Canada and the National Plumbing Code of Canada in renovations and new builds.
