This course teaches aspects of applied mechanics as used by marine engineering officers. This course consists of:
- gear trains
- lifting machines
- friction in machines
- vibrations and critical speed
- static and dynamic balancing
- machine elements, including:
- screws
- clutches
- belt and rope drives
- brakes and governors
- pivot and collar bearings
- the principals of static equilibrium
