About the Government of Canada Survey of Heritage Institutions

The Government of Canada Survey of Heritage Institutions collects financial and operating data on all heritage institutions, including museums, art galleries, archives, historic sites, zoos and botanical gardens.

This survey is conducted to provide aggregate data to governments and other stakeholders in order to gain a better understanding of not-for-profit heritage institutions in Canada and to aid in the development of policies, and the conduct of programs.

Note: The Government of Canada Survey of Heritage Institutions 2011 and 2013 data has been revised. The revised 2011 and 2013 data is now available in the Government of Canada Survey of Heritage Institutions: 2017 Report.
