Canadian Heritage’s social media terms and conditions
Our social media accounts are extensions of the Government of Canada websites. We use them to connect with people, answer questions and share information with Canadians at home and abroad.
By engaging with our content or participating in discussions on our channels, you agree to the following terms and conditions.
Availability and post frequency
We update and monitor our social media during business hours: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm (ET). Sometimes, our channels may be down due to third-party service issues, which is out of our control.
The number of posts varies. During holidays, after hours and on weekends, posts may be limited or reserved for urgent communications.
Content
As a follower of our channels, you can expect to see information about our programs and services, including:
- arts and culture
- diversity and inclusion
- sport
- official languages
- Indigenous languages
- monarchy and the Crown
- legislative projects
- funding opportunities
- international affairs related to human rights, culture and sport
We may also share content posted by federal partners, stakeholders and organizations determined to be relevant to our mandate and of importance to Canadians.
Engaging, following and subscribing
We selectively follow and engage with other accounts. Following or engaging does not imply endorsement of any kind. We may unfollow or block users who post inappropriate content.
Comments and interactions
We welcome diverse opinions in the form of respectful and relevant comments. We moderate during working hours and may block users, and/or hide or remove comments that:
- contain personal information
- violate the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
- are racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic or threatening
- make unproven accusations
- are aggressive, violent, obscene or pornographic
- are offensive or abusive
- promote illegal activity
- are from political or labour organizations
- are not in English or French
- are irrelevant, repetitive or spam
Canadian Heritage reserves the right to turn off the comments section, at any time, based on the criteria mentioned above.
We are committed to creating a safe, positive and inclusive environment and actively monitor comments on our posts for compliance with these guidelines. If you come across any disrespectful content, remember that social media platforms offer tools to report it. We work to foster a safe online space for everyone.
Privacy
Please remember not share personal information about yourself or others in public comments. For specific concerns, contact us through private messages. In accordance with the Access to Information Act and Privacy Act, we only share your information with other government institutions if necessary (for example, your question or request is about another department).
The information you give to Canadian Heritage will only be shared with another government department if your question or request is about that department. We don’t share your information with anyone outside the federal government unless they need it to respond to you.
We encourage you to read the Terms of Use for the platform(s) you are interested in.
