Eastern and Western Cultures Meet at Old Port of Montréal

MONTRÉAL – July 10, 2018
The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced $73,800 in funding for the eighth Orientalys Festival, taking place in Montréal from August 2 to 5, 2018.
This funding, provided through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, will let participants discover the richness and treasures of Eastern and Western cultures.

Alchimies, Créations et Cultures, founded in 1993, is a non-profit organization that creates, produces and distributes cross-disciplinary and multicultural artworks. The annual Orientalys Festival is one of its key events.

The Orientalys Festival, held at the Quai de l’Horloge in the Old Port of Montréal, will have a wide range of art and culture activities, including craft workshops, live concerts and traditional dance performances.

The “Lands of the Orient” space showcases the cultures of three continents and 15 countries, offering a host of experiences that transcend words: intoxicating and alluring fragrances, multicoloured fabrics, glittering jewellery, culinary and craft specialties, and spices from oriental souks.
