The Government of Canada Supports Arts, Culture, and Community Celebrations in Regina

News release

REGINA, May 24, 2019

The Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and Member of Parliament (Regina–Wascana), today announced investments totalling $862,675 to support local festivals, arts performances and community celebrations in Regina. Minister Goodale made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism.

These investments will benefit 15 organizations hosting events and performances in the arts, culture, and   heritage sector, including the Cathedral Village Arts Festival, the Regina Folk Festival, and activities on National Indigenous Peoples Day and Canada Day. These will provide shared opportunities to showcase Canadian artists while celebrating Canada’s history, traditions, cultural diversity and commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. See the attached backgrounder for more details.

Funding has been provided through the Celebrate Canada program, the Local Festivals component of the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, and the Canada Arts Presentation Fund.

In recognition of the key role they play in showcasing Canadian artists, growing the creative economy, and supporting community celebrations, the government has committed an additional $40 million over two years to these three programs in Budget 2019. This additional funding will provide increased support to existing clients and permit more organizations to access federal support. It will enable more Canadians to see, hear and appreciate Canada’s talented and diverse artists by bringing festivals and performing arts series to more communities across the country, celebrate our communities’ diverse origins, and reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
