Supporting the Foundations of Cultural Infrastructure Initiative (supplemental funding for 2022-2023)

The Department of Canadian Heritage plays a vital role in Canadians’ cultural and civic life by fostering an environment where Canadians can experience dynamic cultural expressions, celebrate Canada’s history and heritage, and build strong communities.

Budget 2021 announced additional support of $300 million over 2 years to Canadian Heritage to establish a Recovery Fund for Heritage, Arts, Culture and Sport Sectors. The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund (CCSF) will receive an additional $10 million in 2022-2023 to deliver the Supporting the Foundations of Cultural Infrastructure Initiative.

The investment will provide increased financial support to current CCSF recipients for infrastructure projects that are currently under way which are still struggling with operational viability due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who can apply — current CCSF recipients only

The funding will provide a 1-time project-based support to recipients with approved funding for a project that is currently under way.

Priority will be given to projects from Indigenous peoples, equity-deserving groups, official language minority and rural and remote communities, and under-represented artistic disciplines.

Application deadline

There is no deadline. Applications will be accepted continuously while funds are available. However, since funds are limited, applicants are encouraged to apply as quickly as possible. Applications will be assessed as they are received by the program until funds are disbursed.

The program cannot guarantee that applications under the Supporting Foundations of Cultural Infrastructure Fund received later than Friday, January 13, 2023, will be assessed before March 31, 2023.

Eligible expenses

  • Cost overruns related to existing CCSF eligible expenses including professional fees, capital expenses, and administration expenses
  • Losses of fundraising or partnership opportunities to the project underway directly resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic

How the funding will be disbursed

The support will be provided as supplemental funding to an existing funding agreement (grant or contribution) for 2022-2023.
