Teacher Recruitment and Retention Strategy in Minority French-Language Schools
The Teacher Recruitment and Retention Strategy in Minority French-Language Schools supports various strategies and activities aimed at countering the teacher shortage in Francophone minority schools.
Who can apply
To be eligible for funding, an applicant must be:
- a provincial or territorial government;
- the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC);
- a Canadian professional organization; or
- a registered Canadian non-profit organization.
Eligible organizations must demonstrate that their mission, their mandate or the majority of their activities contribute to the development and vitality of official language minority communities in Canada.
Eligible projects include, but are not limited to:
- projects that demonstrate an ability to rise to the challenges associated with teacher recruitment and/or retention;
- national, regional, and/or provincial/territorial projects to respond to common and specific needs of the regions and/or communities;
- research and analysis projects to better understand the source of challenges and trendsFootnote 1;
- promotional campaigns for the teaching profession and the benefits of bilingualism;
- projects to improve the working conditions of teachers (for example, continuous training and support for the development of language skills);
- projects to develop and update educational resources adapted to teaching in a minority setting and/or to the Canadian context to promote the existing tools and resources or to improve access to educational resources;
- strategies to facilitate the recognition of competencies and credentials, including the integration of foreign teachers.
Eligible expenditures include, but are not limited to:
- costs incurred for activities related to teacher recruitment and/or retention activities in minority French-language schools;
- costs related to research and the dissemination of knowledge, methods, or teaching tools related to the minority language;
- costs incurred for consultation and strategic planning processes related to the issue of teacher recruitment and/or retention, including travel expenses and accommodation for project partners;
- costs related to recruitment activities abroad as part of a national, regional or provincial/territorial strategy.
The following expenditures are not eligible:
- capital expenditures
- program development expenditures
