Royal Canadian Mint

Royal Canadian Mint

Today, the Ottawa headquarters of the Royal Canadian Mint produces hand-crafted collectors and commemorative coins, gold bullion coins, medals, and medallions. This is also where the master tooling is done to create the dies that strike coin designs for both circulation coins and commemorative coins.

During a tour of the Ottawa Mint, your class will learn how coins are made, and how the designs on circulation and commemorative coins reflect the diversity of Canadians. They can also see athlete medals from the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, learn about the Million Dollar Coin, and hold a solid gold bar worth more than $750,000!
