Volunteer and enrich your life
Who we are
Volunteers contribute to the quality of life in Canada’s Capital Region while supporting Canadian Heritage’s mandate. Volunteers help to ensure that important national values, such as a sense of community, are alive and well in today’s capital.
The Canadian Heritage Volunteer Centre involves the entire community to
- support and add to public programs developed by Canadian Heritage
- offer volunteers the opportunity to experience the pleasure of helping to improve the quality of life in their region
The success of our programs at Canadian Heritage such as Canada Day, Winterlude and many other events is due to the efforts of more than 1,000 volunteers, who contribute more than 10,000 hours annually.
How to become a volunteer
The Volunteer Centre provides superior support and supervision during volunteer activities. The selection of volunteers is an important factor in ensuring the effectiveness of volunteer initiatives. Each potential candidate must complete a volunteer application form (PDF Version, 780 KB) and will be invited to an interview. This meeting allows us to verify that mutual expectations can be met. Moreover, the criminal record check is part of the selection process. Please note that the Department does not automatically accept all volunteer applicants.
