On-site scientific services
We will assess any new requests based on their urgency and the date of receipt so that we can provide services to our clients in a fair manner. Additionally, response times may be delayed.
Please note that the delivery of all in-person or on-site services will depend on Covid-19 restrictions issued by local public health and by the Government of Canada for its employees. These restrictions will also have an impact on travel and on our ability to access CCI facilities, various sites or other buildings.

The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) offers several on-site scientific services, including:
- analysis to determine the presence of toxic pesticide residues on museum objects (particularly inorganic pesticides),
- non-destructive infrared spectroscopy analysis to determine the composition of materials,
- microfade testing to identify objects that are at high risk of damage from exposure to light and
- colour and gloss measurement.

Who can apply?
Our primary clients include museums, archives, libraries and historic sites, whose principal role is to acquire, conserve, communicate, exhibit (for purposes of study, education and enjoyment) and conduct research on permanent heritage collections that are accessible to the Canadian public. The majority of on-site scientific services are provided to these clients for a fixed fee. CCI also delivers on-site scientific services to public authorities and other organizations in Canada that are responsible for heritage objects or collections, on the basis of partial or full cost recovery.

Requests for this service can be submitted at any time.
Response to requests
CCI will respond to requests within 3 weeks of receipt. Clients will be told at that time if their request has been accepted, and what terms, conditions and fees (if any) will apply.
How are requests evaluated?
Requests are evaluated against the criteria for assessment of service requests.
Terms and conditions
Successful applicants will be required to agree to the following terms and conditions (1 to 17).
Client satisfaction standard
Clients who receive services from CCI will receive an evaluation questionnaire based on the following 11 quality parameters:
- application process
- acknowledgement of the initial request
- explanation of fees
- explanation of service to be provided
- communication during the project
- promptness of service
- quality of service
- usefulness of service
- quality of written material provided (e.g. report)
- dealings with staff (friendly, courteous and helpful)
- overall value
