Shift: Life Unlocked

For many offenders, serving time in a prison is only part of their sentence. The other part consists of being on parole within the community. It’s freedom with conditions.

In our mini-series “Shift: Life Unlocked”, we follow Parole Officers on their shifts as they check-up on offenders living in the community after being released from prison. Watch as they do the important work of keeping Canadians safe. It’s an important job and they’re proud to do it.

Also catch up on our original “Shift" series, as cameras follow Correctional Officers on their shifts in federal prisons across Canada.

Life Unlocked TEASER

An offender is released from a federal institution to complete their sentence in the community. What comes next?

Freedom comes with conditions.

We follow Parole Officers in the community as they check up on offenders and do the important work of keeping Canadians safe.

I hope to help. I hope to make a difference. And I respect that I can't change everyone.

Hear their stories, their progress, their challenges, their hopes.

You try to better yourself, but you can’t do it when you are around bad people.

I would go into a store and when I was leaving, I would be thinking, ok, do they not want to pat me down?

A lot of guys feel guilty for missing out because they are incarcerated, so when they come out they really want to hit the ground running.

Join us for special limited parole editions of Shift.

Let’s see this through and get you to the end of your sentence so that we can shake your hand at the end of this and say “Don’t come back.”
