- COMMISSIONER'S DIRECTIVE (CD) 730 – Offender Program Assignments and Inmate Payments
Why was the policy changed?
Levels of allowances awarded to Aboriginal offenders attending Aboriginal spiritual and cultural ceremonies through authorized absences from their program assignments have been clarified.
What has changed?
Effective immediately, Aboriginal offenders who attend Aboriginal spiritual and cultural ceremonies through authorized absences from their program assignments will no longer be subject to allowance reductions.
You will find these amendments in the section Payments to Inmates, as well as in the section Levels of Allowances in Annex B.
The key to this decision is that attendance to these activities must be linked to the offender's Healing/Correctional Plan.
How was it developed?
The Reintegration Services Division and the Aboriginal Initiatives Division revised this policy in collaboration with the Strategic Policy Division.
Who will be affected by the policy?
Staff involved in offender program assignments and inmate payments.
