Commissioner's update for correctional employees: August 19, 2024
This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.
Our Mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.
This week is Public Service Pride Week! The week is an opportunity to embrace and celebrate our diverse public service community as well as honour the contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ public servants.
I welcome and encourage you to join in the celebrations put on by the Public Service Pride Network together with the Canada School of Public Service and many other organizations.
Minister LeBlanc visits the Regional Reception Centre
On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the Minister of Public Safety, Democratic Institutions and Intergovernmental Affairs, Dominic LeBlanc, and I visited the Regional Reception Centre and the Special Handling Unit in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Quebec. We were also joined by Acting Senior Deputy Commissioner, France Gratton, Regional Deputy Commissioner, Anne-Marie Labalette, and the Warden of the Regional Reception Centre, Edith Desnoyers.
It was another great opportunity for the Minister to see the hard work you do everyday and for him to hear firsthand accounts of the unprecedented work that went into evacuating Port-Cartier this summer. Thank you to the staff at the Regional Reception Centre for taking time out of your busy schedules to welcome and meet with us this past week.

New Video Kudos Corner
With the unprecedented evacuation of Port-Cartier and meeting so many of you last week and at town halls this summer, it is very clear that you are a testament to excellence and strong leadership. I’ve been hearing you recognize your colleagues in emails to me and when I meet with you during my visits. That’s why I thought it would be great if there was a way this could be shared with all of CSC. You’ll see I’ve created a new space in my weekly message to give anyone who wants it, a platform for you, in your own words, to recognize each other. This new section will be called the “Video Kudos Corner” and I invite you to send your short 10 to 15 second video clip to our Communications team who will format the clips to be part of my weekly messages.
Revised Commissioner’s Directive 737: Inmate-operated Businesses

Revisions and clarifications were made to the policy as part of the review process and to better reflect the requirements associated with inmate-operated businesses. This policy affects all inmates and staff involved in an inmate-operated business.
