Commissioner's update for correctional employees: February 3, 2025
This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.
Our mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.
Our core values: Respect, fairness, professionalism, inclusiveness, and accountability.
The beginning of February marks the start of Black History Month, a time to celebrate the achievements of Black communities in Canada, listen to their stories, and learn more about their history and contributions. This year’s spotlight is on Black leadership. The theme, Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations, highlights the profound impact of Black leaders throughout our history and recognizes those helping shape our future.
As part of our communications this month, we will be amplifying the voices of Black leaders across CSC, including employees, volunteers, and members of the Black Employee Network, who help advance meaningful change within CSC. I am incredibly proud of the diverse leadership across CSC. Your hard work, dedication and commitment to inclusivity is truly worth celebrating.
New Let’s Talk Article
I invite you to read and share with your colleagues, our latest story about Adam Webber, the National Command Sergeant-Major for our Guard of Honour.
Last year, Sergeant-Major Webber achieved a milestone by becoming CSC’s first honorary aide-de-camp to the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, a prestigious role. CSC is honored to be represented by such a dedicated employee. Congratulations Adam!
