Commissioner's update for correctional employees: March 24, 2025
Ce contenu est un message adressé au personnel du Service correctionnel Canada (SCC) par la commissaire du SCC.
Our mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.
Our core values: Respect, fairness, professionalism, inclusiveness, and accountability.
As you may know, Parliament was dissolved yesterday and a federal election was called. This means that we are now in "caretaker convention" until a new government is sworn in. The election will take place on Monday, April 28.

New “Prisons Inside/Out” episode: Can inmates vote
Did you know that offenders have the right to vote? This right was granted to all inmates in 2002.
Learn more about how voting works in our federal prisons in the latest episode of “Prisons Inside / Out.” We will hear from CSC staff who work to coordinate and run elections and the offender who challenged the law to make voting possible for all federally incarcerated people.
“Choose Canada” advertising campaign

CSC staff contribute expertise at Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Symposium
Staff from the Correctional Operations and Programs (COP) Sector were recently invited to share their expertise as panelists at the Corrections and Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Symposium, held in Ottawa, on March 17 and 18. The event, hosted by the Canada Centre for Community Engagement and Prevention of Violence, brought together professionals from various sectors to discuss strategies for disengagement from violent extremism, rehabilitation, and community reintegration.
Representing CSC, four employees participated as panelists, contributing valuable insights drawn from their extensive experience in correctional operations, interventions, and reintegration strategies.
Their contributions highlighted CSC’s commitment to promoting evidence-based practices, collaboration, and effective approaches to support offender rehabilitation and reduce recidivism.
Thank you to our colleagues for representing CSC.
New Policy on Communications and Federal Identity
Over the past several months, Treasury Board has been consulting departments to make amendments to the Government of Canada communications policy. The new policy instruments will align with evolving communications needs, reinforce non-partisan communications, strengthen the management of government communications, and introduce measures to address misinformation and disinformation.
The new Policy on Communications and Federal Identity and the Directive on the Management of Communications and Federal Identity will take effect and be available on March 27.
Communications advisors will be receiving training and guidance about the new policy and will work with all sectors to ensure compliance.
Thank you for the hard work you do everyday.
