Mental health presentations for staff

The first week of May marks Mental Health Week and this year’s theme is Unmasking Mental Health.

People living with mental health challenges often feel the need to hide behind a “mask” to protect themselves from judgment and discrimination. It is our responsibility to raise awareness, provide resources, and alleviate the stigma associated with mental health issues. Let us work towards creating a safe space for staff to be comfortable seeking support and opening up about this important issue.

The work that we do is hard, and it is not for everyone. It is a testament to your resilience and your commitment and dedication, which I underscore every week in my messages to you. While working in corrections can be tough, it can be very rewarding. It also comes with its own set of challenges that can take a toll on your mental health, particularly for our front-line staff.

Asking for help is a sign of strength. I encourage you to attend presentations organized by CSC’s Workplace Wellness and Employee Wellbeing Directorate on some of the mental health resources available to you at CSC.

You can attend one or both of the following sessions, for which calendar invites are being sent:

Communications

I wanted to tell you about an exciting new project that communications will be undertaking. We are starting a new docuseries on the important work done in our institutions, on the frontlines. As we undertake culture change at CSC, we want to tell our story effectively, showcase your positive impact, and highlight the essential role you all play in Canada.

I would like to thank you all for the commitment and dedication you show in your work every day.
