Commissioner's update for correctional employees: December 1, 2025

This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.

Our mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.

Our core values: Respect, fairness, professionalism, inclusiveness, and accountability.

I know that this is a challenging time across the federal public service. As we navigate uncertainty and change, I am pleased to announce that TELUS Health will continue to be CSC's external Employee Assistance Program (EAP) service provider for the next three years.

You may not be aware that in addition to short-term counselling sessions with a mental health professional and a 24/7 crisis line, TELUS Health also provides career counselling and resilience coaching, financial, legal, estate planning, nutritional support, and other work-life services for you and your eligible family members.

In addition, CSC’s internal EAP offers peer-led confidential support, a listening ear, and information about available internal and external resources. They provide an invaluable service at all CSC workplaces. I want to take a moment to thank them for going above and beyond their duties to support the mental health and wellbeing of their fellow colleagues.

Real Property Institute of Canada award plaques made by CORCAN

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the 2025 Real Property Institute of Canada (RPIC) Awards of Excellence ceremony, in Ottawa. This event brings people together to learn, collaborate and celebrate the outstanding achievements of those shaping the future of Canada’s real property landscape.

This year, CORCAN was proud to partner up with the RPIC to design the award plaques presented at the award ceremony. I was honoured to speak about CORCAN’s work with the offenders under our care, the positive impact it has on them and the importance that partnerships like these can have. Thank you to RPIC for the opportunity to collaborate with us.

Happy International Volunteer Day

On December 5, we celebrate International Volunteer Day. This day honors the thousands of volunteers who support our work, including members of our advisory committees.

Volunteers help in many ways, from supporting temporary absences to teaching life skills. Their efforts make rehabilitation and reintegration stronger.

Help me in thanking the volunteers for their dedication. Together, we create chances for growth and positive change – impacting our communities both inside and out.

Thank you for your vigilance.
