Commissioner's update for correctional employees: February 9, 2026
This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.
Our mission: The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.
Our core values: Respect, fairness, professionalism, inclusiveness, and accountability.
Comprehensive Expenditure Review
In light of recent news about workforce adjustment at CSC, I wanted to reiterate that we will make every effort to maximize employment continuity for indeterminate employees who wish to remain in the public service by ensuring that, wherever possible, alternate employment options are provided.
For example, to facilitate the redeployment of affected employees into different positions within CSC, the Human Resources Sector will be sending all affected employees a questionnaire. Its purpose is to gather relevant information in terms of competencies (such as official languages, education) and mobility so that affected employees can be considered for future vacancies. Affected employees can expect to receive this questionnaire via email by mid-February.
A reminder that CSC-related CER information is available on the Hub, including links to employee sessions on the workforce adjustment process in the Employee Toolkit Section. Manager sessions have also been added and are found in the Manager Toolkit session.

I know that the recently announced changes, and the uncertainty leading up to them, have been difficult. We will continue to keep you informed. If you need support, please reach out to a colleague, your manager or available resources, such as the EAP.

Front-Line Friday: Nicole
On Friday, we met Nicole, a Correctional Officer II at Drumheller Institution, who gave Canadians an inside look into a control post in an inmate living unit. She and her fellow officers monitor and control inmate movement and work hard to de-escalate situations when needed. Nicole, thank you for your service.

Black History Month
Meet Nicole, a Correctional Officer II at Drumheller Institution
As we continue to honour the rich heritage and many contributions of Black Canadians during Black History Month, I would like to recognize the important role that CSC’s Ethnocultural Advisory Committees, volunteers, and community partners play in our work.
Their dedication and leadership help support our efforts to foster an equitable and inclusive environment. The impacts of their efforts help strengthen supports for Black offenders and communities by building networks and opportunity. Thank you to all staff that continue to collaborate with partners like these.
Thank you for continued dedication and hard work.
