Commissioner's update for correctional employees : CSC Appreciation Day

This content is a message to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff from CSC's Commissioner.

Today is CSC Appreciation Day, a time to recognize and celebrate your dedication and hard work to support the rehabilitation of federal offenders.

This day was first acknowledged in 2015 when our organization was granted “Freedom of the City” in Kingston, Ontario. Kingston is where the Provincial Penitentiary of Upper Canada, considered the first federal institution, opened its doors 188 years ago.

Although many things have changed over the years, our Mission as well as your passion and dedication for the work you do to keep us all safe, while helping offenders rehabilitate, has not.

The impact you have on the offenders’ lives is immeasurable. Your contributions are essential and critical to the safety and security of Canadians. This is something to be very proud of.

The work you do is unlike any other profession. Each of you play an important role and demonstrate outstanding:

We have an important mandate, and your duties are far from easy. For those of you on the frontline, and for those of you who work behind the scenes, you work hard every day to support our mandate. Your positive attitude, respect, and integrity—all qualities that guide your work— are very much appreciated.

Thank you for your efforts in helping CSC honour its Mission. I am proud to work alongside you.

Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it. Autograph your work with excellence.
