Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: April 22, 2024

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

Today is Earth Day. This gives us the chance to reflect on the impact that our activities have on the environment.

At CSC, we continue to do our part to reduce our carbon footprint and protect the environment by relying on our environmental protection and sustainable development policies and practices.

Those of the Jewish faith are celebrating Passover, the festival of freedom, from April 22 to April 30. Passover, also called Pesach, is a major holiday that celebrates the Jewish peoples' escape from slavery in Egypt over 3,000 years ago. It represents a universal message of freedom and redemption.

To those celebrating, Chag Pesach Sameach! Happy Passover!

Drug overdoses, both fatal and nonfatal, continue to impact our communities. When drugs are combined with other toxic substances, it can further increase the risk of accidental overdose. You may be using a lethal combination without knowing it and putting yourselves at risk for overdose.

Your health and safety are a priority and we ask that you please be careful. We have a range of health services available to you to help with problematic substance use as well as substance use programming. Speak to your parole officer or a health care professional for more information on what’s available at your institution.
