Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: July 29, 2024

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

I want to highlight CORCAN’s Vocational Training Program. This program offers training and hands-on experience in the trades. This can help develop new skills and abilities.

The hours worked and the training done can also count towards earning certifications in the trades to help build up experience and qualifications towards a career in the industry. I encourage you to ask your program officer about what training may be available to you.

Yesterday, July 28, was World Hepatitis Day – a day to raise awareness of viral infections and diseases which cause inflammation of the liver. It is important that those affected by hepatitis seek diagnosis and treatment.

CSC provides immunization to prevent infection. We also offer ways to detect, manage, and treat hepatitis in affected patients. In addition, harm reduction services are available to patients with substance use-related health needs to reduce harms from infectious disease, including hepatitis. I encourage you to talk with staff in Health Care if you have any questions or concerns about hepatitis.
