Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: August 26, 2024

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

This week, I want to highlight more of the great work being done through CORCAN. CORCAN’s programs are available both while at an institution and when under community supervision. They provide on-the-job training, apprenticeship hours, employment support services, and more.

CORCAN

Recently, one participant under community supervision spoke at a conference about how CORCAN has provided him with stability and skills for his job and life. He shared that through his work with CORCAN, he learned about routine, collaboration, scheduling his time, making his own lunches, perseverance, and accountability.

Speaking in front of a large group of people was nerve-wracking, but thanks in part to the experience and confidence gained working with CORCAN, he was able to captivate the audience and share his experiences.

Afterwards, he told his parole officer, “That was the greatest thing I ever did in my life."

I encourage you to reach out to CORCAN staff or an Employment Coordinator.
