Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: September 3, 2024
This week, I wanted to share a success story about one of the many vocational training programs that can help you.
I wanted to share a story about Jessy, an offender who gained valuable training and hands-on experience working in Archambault’s industrial laundry facilities. He completed his semi‑skilled trades training as a laundry worker and machine operator. He put in 375 hours of practical work and 100 hours of academic labour market training to receive his certification.
Through this program, Jessy gained not only necessary skills needed in the laundry shop, but also a sense of self‑confidence and a belief that his efforts would pay off. He began to see the value of his skills and his potential as a citizen.

I strongly believe that vocational training programs like this are an important opportunity for you to learn practical skills, develop your self‑confidence, and prepare you for a successful community reintegration.
Initially, Jessy wasn’t certain about becoming a laundry worker outside the institution. However, I was pleased to learn that, since his release, he started a job at a laundry facility in the community.
I encourage you to reach out to your case management team to learn more about the programs available to you.
