Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: October 7, 2024

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

Mental Illness Awareness Week, from October 6 to 12, is a great time for you to have open and honest conversations about mental health. It’s important to understand, learn, talk, and listen. At CSC, we are committed to helping you with your mental health needs effectively and promptly.

October 10 is also World Mental Health Day. I encourage you to reach out to our Health Services team if you have any concerns or need support. Our dedicated health team includes psychiatrists, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, and physicians who are here to support you.

I am also happy to share that CSC is developing its fourth ethnocultural calendar for 2025 and we are looking for submissions from you. We are asking for original artwork or poetry on anti-racism/anti-discrimination, under this year’s theme: “Diversity is Strength.” This is an opportunity to express yourself and to have your voice heard through your artwork and poetry. Let’s work together to address racism and discrimination.

For more information on how to provide a submission, please see a Social Program Officer or Ethnocultural Site Coordinator at your site. The submission deadline is October 31.
