Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: October 15, 2024

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

This weekend, we celebrated Thanksgiving. It’s a special time to express gratitude to those who support you in your progress. I hope you took this opportunity to connect with the people that are close to you.

October 17 is International Conflict Resolution Day. It promotes peaceful ways of resolving conflict. We all have different opinions, goals, ideas, or beliefs, and sometimes this can make a situation worse, and cause conflict and tension.

Conflict happens; what matters is how we choose to respond to it. Conflict can often be resolved early by avoiding blame and judgment. There are many ways we can resolve conflicts in a more productive and healthier way. I encourage you to use communication, collaboration, empathy, and, understanding. There are also many supports available to help you and it’s important to remember that seeking help instead of choosing conflict is a sign of strength.
