Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: June 30, 2025
This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.
Tomorrow is Canada Day. It celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation, which occurred on July 1, 1867. This day is a chance for us to learn about our history and reflect on the experiences of Indigenous Peoples, who have cared for this land for generations. I encourage you tomorrow to take some time and learn more about our country. Happy Canada Day to everyone.
Our Canadian Flag
As you may know, the Maple Leaf is one of the most recognizable symbols of Canada. It has been representing our identity since the 19th century.
The colours of the flag also have a special meaning. They represent the natural features of our country.
- The white is for the winter snow.
- The red stands for the maple leaves in the fall.
Canada Day is a time to reflect not only on where we’ve been, but on where we’re going.
