Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: July 21, 2025

I want to share with you a unique initiative that was put together with some of our community partners. Work 2 Give (W2G) is a project that helps incarcerated Indigenous Peoples give back to their communities.

This initiative offers incarcerated individuals, an opportunity to learn valuable skills while giving back to Indigenous communities in need, in the spirit of reconciliation. For many federally sentenced Indigenous Peoples, initiatives like these feel empowering and can be healing.

The initial project was 40 picnic tables. Today, W2G has shops in four institutions across the Ontario and Nunavut region.

I want to give a big thank you to everyone involved in initiatives like these. It is truly inspiring to hear participants describe this program as life changing.
