Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: August 5, 2025

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

This week, I wanted to highlight the importance of conflict resolution. Conflicts can happen — but how we respond to conflict makes all the difference. You can help manage conflict by:

Any violence against our staff or each other is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Please speak up or ask staff how to avoid conflict or situations that can feel unsafe. Remember to apply the constructive skills you have learned through different programs and interventions available to you.

I also wanted to share that CSC is developing its 2026 Ethnocultural Calendar and we are looking for submissions from you. Under the theme “Cultural Inspirations!”, we are asking for original artwork, poetry and recipes about inclusivity, individuality and cultural diversity. This is an opportunity to express yourself and to have your voice heard.

For more information on how to make a submission, please talk to an institutional Social Program Officer, Ethnocultural Site Coordinator, or Community Parole Officer. The submission deadline is September 29.

Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it.
