Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: August 11, 2025
August 9 marked International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples—a day to recognize and respect the rights, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous communities around the world. It’s also time to think about how we can support reconciliation and build understanding.
CSC is dedicated to supporting Indigenous perspectives on justice and reconciliation. We offer programs and services that reflect Indigenous cultures and help support your journey.
If you're interested, talk to an Elder or Indigenous liaison officer in your institution. They’re here to listen, guide, and support you. These resources can help you grow, heal, and connect with your identity.
Reconciliation is something we all can take part in. It’s about learning, reflecting, and taking steps forward. Whether you’re just starting or continuing your journey, every step matters.
August 10 was Prisoner Justice Day— This day reminds us to respect the human rights and dignity of everyone, including people who are incarcerated. It’s a time to think about fairness, safety, and compassion in our correctional system.
“We like the idea of a Canada where all cultures are encouraged to develop in harmony with one another, to become part of the great mosaic. ” - Harold Cardinal
