Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: August 25, 2025

This week, I want to highlight CORCAN’s on-the-job training program. A reminder that CORCAN has over 100 shops all over the country. This program offers you training and hands-on experience in the trades.

CORCAN offers training in

• manufacturing
• textiles
• services
• construction, and
• agriculture

Their programs can help you develop new skills and abilities that will build up experience and qualifications towards a career in the industry. The hours worked and the training done can also count towards earning certifications in the trades.

I encourage you to ask a member of your case management team about what training may be available to you.

Finally, please remember that expressing anger or frustration through violence is never the answer.  If you're feeling overwhelmed, upset, or unheard, use your voice. Choosing communication over confrontation helps build a safer and more respectful environment for everyone.
