Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: September 2, 2025
September is Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Awareness Month. This is an opportunity to recognize and better understand the difficulties that people with FASD can face every day.
FASD has lifelong impacts on the brain and body of individuals who are exposed to alcohol before they are born. It is important to remember that each individual with FASD is unique and has areas of both strengths and challenges.
Did you know that many individuals diagnosed with FASD are visual learners, so they are more likely to enjoy pastimes such as sketching and drawing?
At CSC, we are committed to improving awareness of FASD and ensuring that those affected by it have access to quality, safe care.
Whether you live with FASD or just want to learn more about it, resources and supports are available through your Health Services team.
The first step toward change is awareness. The second step is acceptance.
