Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: November 3, 2025

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

On October 30, the Annual Report of the Office of Correctional Investigator (OCI) was released. The OCI’s role is to ensure the fair and humane treatment of persons serving federal sentences. CSC welcomes this report and its recommendations.

Each year, this report gives us the opportunity to work together to review and enhance the work we do in corrections. It provides independent, impartial, and timely investigations into complaints and concerns in the federal correctional system.

If you are interested in reading this report and CSC’s response to it, copies will be available to you at the library.

November 7 marks International Inuit Day. On this day and every day, we honour Inuit culture. Over the years, CSC has worked with Indigenous partners and developed the Anijaarniq Holistic Inuit Strategy, an important step for collaboration and reconciliation. Our organization is committed to finding responsive interventions, addressing challenges and support federally sentenced Inuit individuals with their reintegration.

This week also marks Veterans’ Week. On November 8, we also commemorate Indigenous Veterans Day and on November 11, Remembrance Day. This is an opportunity for us to take the time to honour our veterans and reflect on their service to our country in times of war, conflict, and peace. Let us never forget their sacrifices.

In every community, there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal. In every heart, there is the power to do it.

Marianne Williamson
