Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: December 1, 2025

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

December 1 marks World AIDS Day, a day to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS, remember those who died from the disease, and show support for people living with HIV.

Thanks to scientific advancements, treatment options exist meaning that HIV is no longer fatal. Most people living with HIV do not develop AIDS because treatment is so successful. It suppresses the virus in a person’s blood so much that it doesn’t even show up in standard tests. If HIV is undetectable in a person, that means they also can’t pass HIV to another person. CSC Health Services has more information to help you:

If you have any questions or concerns about HIV/AIDS, I encourage you to contact a member of your Health Services team.

December 5 is International Volunteer Day. Volunteers from the community generously give their time to support you. They help teach new skills, create a sense of community, participate in activities, and offer support in areas of interest. Please take a moment to thank the volunteers who contribute to making a positive difference every day.

"Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later."
