Commissioner's update for or offenders and their families: February 9, 2026

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

Last summer, the Government of Canada asked all federal departments, including the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), to take part in a Comprehensive Expenditure Review. This review is now complete. The purpose was for organizations to identify opportunities to operate more efficiently while continuing to fulfill their mandates.

As you know, CSC’s mandate remains focused on rehabilitation and safe reintegration of individuals into our communities, and this will not change. At this time, no decisions are expected that would affect day to day institutional life. As we implement the measures resulting from this review over the next three years, starting in April 2026, I will keep you informed on any changes that may be relevant to you.

This is a reminder that it is not too late to submit art or poetry to thank a volunteer or organization that you have been working with from the community. Your work could be featured on CSC’s website during National Volunteer Week in April 2026.

Submissions should reflect your gratitude and the positive impact their relationship has had on your life and rehabilitation efforts.

Speak to your Social Program Officer or other staff to get more information. The deadline for submissions is February 28, 2026.
